The SMART Embedded Computing MVME7100-0161 uses the system-on-chip mpc864xd processor, providing a growth path for VMEbus customers using the previous generation VME, particularly the MPC74xx processor. System-on-chip implementations provide power/heat, reliability, and lifecycle benefits not usually found in other architectures.

The SMART EC MVME7100-0161 Single-board computer (SBC) helps original equipment manufacturers of industrial, medical, and defense/aerospace equipment increase performance and functionality to gain a competitive advantage while still protecting essential investments in VMEbus and related technologies. Customers can retain their VMEbus infrastructure (chassis, backplane, and other VMEbus and pmc boards) while improving performance and extending lifecycle. In addition, the extended life cycle of SMART EC computing products helps reduce the loss of development and support work due to frequent product changes.

The combination of a faster processor and the 2eSST VMEbus interface provides significant performance improvements. The new low-cost peripherals can be easily integrated using a USB interface. The extended temperature (-40°C to +71°C) variants support a wide range of operating and storage temperatures, in addition to increased impact tolerances. This allows the board to operate in harsh environments while maintaining structural and operational integrity

Vmebus 2est performance
The 2eSST protocol provides up to 320MB/s of available VME bus bandwidth, an eight-fold increase over VME64, while maintaining backward compatibility with VME64 and VME32. The combination of the latest Texas Instruments VMEbus transceivers and the tundra Tsi148 VMEbus bridge’s legacy protocol support allows customers to integrate the MVME7100 series into their existing infrastructure, providing backward compatibility, thereby preserving their investment in existing VMEbus boards, backplanes, chassis, and software.
